As previously announced, Jerry Wright will be Lead Instructor for the EPSE Program.
Jerry began his lean journey with Kimberly-Clark Corporation in 1987. During his time there, Jerry learned world-class manufacturing methods and gained expertise in 5S, Quick Changeover, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Value-Added Manufacturing. He developed a Project Management methodology that became the standard of excellence for the Household Products Sector. While leading tissue operations, his teams surpassed every company productivity record in the company’s history.
Jerry joined leading medical device maker DJO Global in 1997 and held leadership positions in Quality, Engineering and Operations. He was one of the key change leaders that helped grow the company from $85 million to over $1.1 billion in revenue. While the Director of Operations at DJO, his site received IndustryWeek Top Ten Best Plant, The Shingo Prize and the AME Manufacturing Excellence Award.
As Senior Vice President of Lean and Enterprise Excellence at DJO, Jerry led the lean transformation of more than a dozen acquired medical device and surgical companies from 2000 to 2013. Along with Dr. Gary Losse, MD, he was instrumental in bringing lean methods to the surgery centers, medical offices and clinics of key customers of DJO Global from 2009 to 2013.
Jerry is currently CEO and President of LEANwRIGHT, Inc., a Lean Consulting and Training Services Company. From 2013 until early 2016, Jerry was the PPI Way Coach for Power Partners, an industrial transformer manufacturer in Athens, GA. Jerry helped transform the business from losing millions of dollars into making millions per year. Jerry led the company’s CI program and provided both leadership and engineering direction for the company’s operations and technical services teams.
Jerry is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME). He was Chairman of the Board for 2015-2016 and was the interim President and CEO from October 2015 to April 2016. From 2008-2015, he was the Lead Instructor for the UC San Diego Lean Enterprise Certification Program. In 2017, Jerry became the Lead Instructor for the Executive Perspective for Scientists and Engineers program (EPSE) at UCSD. He is a current Shingo Prize and AME Excellence Award Examiner and for last 17 years, he has been the Chair of the Southern California Lean Network, an association of 125 companies across Southern California that share best practices in enterprise excellence.
Jerry earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California and the holder of one U.S. patent. He is Lean Gold Certified and a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He was also a contributing author to the Lean Handbook, and is a regular speaker at industry events and conferences
